FinTechTT Celebrates Two Years Of Building Bridges

FinTechTT is pleased to mark its 2nd anniversary with the announcement of its first international partnership, along with the onboarding of our first Executive Manager.

Earlier this year, as part of its ongoing efforts to create integrated networks between domestic and international FinTech players, FinTechTT finalised a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with APIX – the world’s first open innovation platform on the cloud.

APIX was launched at the Singapore FinTech Festival in 2019, with the participation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Based in one of the world’s FinTech hubs, APIX was engineered to offer a marketplace for FinTechs and related parties to collaborate, innovate and communicate; a sandbox for testing and coding new products and services; and a community for like-minded persons to be inspired.

About APIX: API Exchange (APIX) is an initiative of the ASEAN Financial Innovation Network (AFIN), a not-for-profit entity that was jointly formed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the ASEAN Bankers Association. It is a global, open-architecture platform that supports financial innovation and inclusion in ASEAN and around the world

The MoU defines a medium-term agenda of information-sharing, joint-event coordination, and relationship-building between local FinTech players, and APIX’s 700+ members from around the globe. Over the next year, these synergies will be interwoven in a series of activities being planned by FinTechTT, which has been described by its President, Maria Daniel, as ‘a targeted, sustainable stream of programming and education that will imbed FinTech as an everyday facet of the livelihoods of T&T citizens – as we emerge into an ever more digitalised era.”

To oversee and coordinate this programme, FinTechTT has engaged Ms. Helen Llanos who will take up the mantle of FinTechTT’s inaugural Executive Manager. With 20 years of experience in the payments space, Ms. Llanos brings a unique blend of experience in Marketing and IT, with a strong proven skill set in strategic planning, project management, public relations and execution.

The Board, Working Groups and members welcome her energy and passion which will ensure effective implementation of projects and engagement of myriad stakeholders. In accepting the portfolio, Ms. Llanos commented that “FinTechTT’s mission presents a profound opportunity for Trinidad and Tobago to develop an enabling ecosystem for digital transformation and inspires a sense of nationalism as I commit to assisting in the facilitation of a robust digital financial infrastructure, which will unite the Caribbean and provide Financial inclusion for all.”

Individuals and organisations that are already involved or interested in the FinTech space, are encouraged to join FinTechTT and add their voice and resources to ‘building a globally competitive domestic ecosystem that will establish Trinidad & Tobago as the leading FinTech-enabled society in Latin America and the Caribbean.’
